# How are fuel surcharges calculated?

## Mothership dynamically calculates fuel charges based on weekly fuel pricing data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

#### **How are fuel charges calculated?**

Mothership dynamically calculates fuel charges based on your region's average weekly fuel prices.

#### **How do you know the diesel prices for my region?**

Mothership pulls data from the[ U.S. Energy Information Administration](https://www.eia.gov/) to adjust charges with [real-time fuel prices](https://www.eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/) in your area.

To better understand your region's weekly average fuel price, follow the EIA's [Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Update](https://www.eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/).

#### **When are fuel charges applied to my shipment?**

Fuel surcharges are applied to every mile of the shipment.

#### **Calculate your fuel surcharge charge**

Please reference the following fuel surcharge tables to calculate your current fuel surcharge based on the fuel cost in your area. If you'd like to download the following documents, please find them attached at the bottom of this article.
